Here’s our previous coverage of this divisive film:

Never Let Go is a 2024 supernatural horror film about a family that has been haunted by an evil spirit for years.
The movie was directed and co-produced by Alexandre Aja (director of Oxygen; Crawl; Piranha 3D; The Hills Have Eyes 2010; High Tension) from a screenplay by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. It was also produced by Dan Cohen, Dan Levine and Shawn Levy. Executive produced by Halle Berry, Dan Clarke, Connor DiGregorio, Holly Jeter, Emily Morris and Christopher Woodrow.
The 21 Laps Entertainment-Lionsgate Films-Media Capital Technologies production stars Halle Berry, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Christin Park, Stephanie Lavigne, Anthony B. Jenkins, Cadence Compton and Percy Daggs IV.

Plot:
A mother (Halle Berry) and her fraternal twin sons (Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins) have been tormented by an evil spirit for years and are convinced to never let go of their family’s protective bond.

But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, their connection is severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival…

Reviews:
“The movie doesn’t quite stumble by its conclusion, but it does strip the film of any ambiguity about the reality the film is taking place in. That this isn’t quite as disappointing as it should be is because this family drama remains at its heart, ensuring relationship dynamics remain the driving focus, as opposed to the otherworldly narrative logic. And it’s true: if you’re the type of viewer who takes pride in poking at plot holes, then I’m sure you’ll have fun with this one.” Grade: B Awards Watch
“At every turn Aja keeps us on the edge of our seats with an exceptional skill to create bone-chilling scares out of almost nothing. The emphasis here is not on piling up the bodies or following the usual tropes of the horror genre, or his own bloody cinematic past, but rather keeping it for the most part (yes, there are a couple of gross-outs) in the psychological realm. Fear is a very strong weapon.” Deadline
“Berry, who’s also a producer through her HalleHolly company, gives it her all. De-glammed almost to a feral degree and slipping in and out of a Southern accent, she deftly blurs the lines separating fiercely protective from paranoid and unhinged for much of the duration. But all her conviction can’t breathe substance into a story that’s way more complicated than complex and a movie that takes itself far more seriously than the material merits.” The Hollywood Reporter
“With its compelling plot, star-studded cast, and expert direction, Never Let Go is shaping up to be one of the must-watch horror films of 2024. Whether you’re a fan of psychological thrillers or supernatural horror, this film has something to offer. The combination of emotional depth and relentless tension will keep you hooked from start to finish.” INKBD

“Halle Berry and the young cast do a great job of selling the characters. The film has great themes and layered family dynamic. The film does have lulls in the story. It teases the vague elements of the story too much without committing.” ★★★ Screen Rant
” …the only frightening moments that Never Let Go delivers come from a handful of cheap jump scares when Momma is out there looking for food. This would be fine were the film trading chills for genuinely compelling character-building. But even the latter is sacrificed in a plodding game of is-she-or-isn’t-she that grows tiresome and enervating as the film increasingly refuses to even play by its own rules.” 1.5/4 Slant
“From the outset of our journey to the final seconds before the end credits, we’re continually guessing whether these monsters are real or malevolent manifestations brought on by cabin fever. It feels intended to encourage debate since there really are horrendous evils in the world. However, if there’s anything this fantastical campfire tale lacks, it’s a smart, satiating ending.” Variety
