Review:
There is simply no logical reason for the continued filming in this supposed found footage flick, especially after the first murder. And found footage is not smoothly shot and edited, with a rousing musical score.

The acting is fine, especially by Benjamin L. Newmark as the sweary, obnoxious Kevin, but the characters’ actions make no sense whatsoever. Location shooting in the woods with no lighting? It’s simply implausible. Watching CDs they discover in a box after they’ve just witnessed a brutal murder? No way. Then, filming/watching footage of another brutal murder just so we, the audience, get to see it. They’d be screaming with fear and panic by this point. Locking doors is fine, but the villains could have easily broken a window to attack them—another implausibility. The final scenes also beg questions: Who is filming and why?

This could have been an effective invasion horror because it’s more than competently put together. Many scenes are creepy and suspenseful. A couple of the knocking at doors scenes offer jump scares that genuinely work. The action is quick and the running time is short, so there’s hardly any letup in the presentation. Unfortunately, Brendan Rudnicki’s decision to shoot The Last Cabin in supposed found footage mode doesn’t work unless you’re really gullible and/or easily pleased.
