The Behemoth is a 2025 low budget supernatural horror film about a couple who encounter a dark cult set on bringing back a fearsome entity from the shadows, culminating in the birth of an ancient monster.
The production utilised practical creature and gore effects, which were singled out positively in festival coverage. The film also deliberately plays with conventional cult-horror expectations, beginning with an extremely disturbing sequence involving the attempted creation of the Behemoth.
The movie was directed by Kai Edmund Bogatzki from a screenplay co-written with Rapsodies (sic) and Orso Vesperini.
The REX Film Produktion-Elite Film Group-Rapsodies co-production stars Sarah Dawes, Beatrice Fletcher, Ryan Wichert and Johnny Vivash.
Plot:
Ryan and Rebecca, a British couple, travel to an isolated rural resort hoping for a peaceful holiday. Instead, they find themselves caught up with a sinister cult known as the Servants of Blood.
The cult believes that an ancient supernatural entity — the Behemoth — can be brought back into the world through a horrific ritual. Their plans initially involve Christine, whose body is intended to serve as the vessel for the creature. When the ritual goes horribly wrong, however, the cult must find another way to bring their supposed god into existence.
Rebecca gradually discovers that she and Ryan aren’t simply unfortunate tourists who have stumbled across the cult. Their presence is part of the cult’s plan, and the couple become increasingly trapped in a nightmare involving abduction, sacrifice and an impending apocalypse.
Eventually, the cult succeeds in bringing the Behemoth into physical existence. But the monstrous entity proves to be considerably less controllable than its worshippers anticipated. It turns against the very people who summoned it, unleashing a bloody rampage.
Rebecca is consequently forced into a fight for survival against both the cult and the creature they have unleashed, while confronting the terrifying truth about why she and Ryan were brought to the resort in the first place…
Release:
The film premiered at the Hard:Line Film Festival in Germany on September 11, 2025. Black Mandala is handling worldwide distribution while Cleopatra Entertainment distributes in the US.
