SUGAR SKULL GIRLS (2016) Reviews and overview

Sugar Skull Girls is a 2016 American comedy fantasy film written and directed by Christian Grillo (Apocalypse Kiss; Deer Crossing; Roxsy Tyler’s House of Horrors). It stars Leslie Easterbrook, Michael Berryman (The Evil Within; The Devil’s Rejects; The Hills Have Eyes; et al), Addy Miller and John Amplas (Creepshow; Midnight; Martin).

Three demonic sisters who resemble neo-goth voodoo dolls are accidentally conjured from the other side during a failed attempt to raise a little girl from the dead. The Sugar Skull Girls will stop at nothing to escape the clutches of The Pale Witch, the ruler of The Shadow World…

“There was nothing engaging that would let the viewer step beyond the unrealistic effects and puppets. The acting was stilted mostly (though Berryman and, especially, Easterbrook both chewed the scenery and gave more than the film probably deserved) and the jokes unfunny. The film’s narrative felt like vignettes stitched together as there was little in connective dialogue.” Taliesen Meets the Vampires

“Watching this movie is a real struggle, that also sucked all energy out of me. And this is not necessarily because of its weak acting, silly effects or poor makeup, but rather because of its incredibly lacking storytelling. It is all over the place! Scenes don’t make much sense, dialog gets rushed, character never build up…” Frank Veenstra, Bob_Fett1138
