‘Nothing escapes’

Delirium is a 2014 horror film directed by Johnny Martin (Hangman) from a screenplay by Francisco Castro and Andy Cheng. It stars Mike C. Manning, Griffin Freeman and August Roads.

The Hell Gang, an exclusive club made up of a group of school friends, promise their classmate Eddie that he can join the gang if he can just make it to the porch of a legendary local mansion with a dark, sinister past.

Others have tried but none have made it within sight of the mansion before fleeing back in terror. And Eddie, who is rigged with a camera to prove he did it, does not return at all!

Five members of the gang must now go in to find him. They set off, confident that Eddie is trying to prank them, but what they find in the old mansion is even more terrifying than the campfire stories and legends of murdered children that once lived there…

Reviews:

“The film – a low-budget but super-slick mix of found footage and traditional narrative camerawork – spooks and jolts in all the right spots, yet has the temperance to be more shaded and subtle with its frights and performances. What’s also of note is there’s almost no heavily-objectionable language or massive amounts of gore, a welcome change from most modern-day horror films.” DC Filmdom

“Director Martin has a way with a camera, and in cutting between the “found” footage stuff and an ostensibly objective camera within scenes he creates some unusual rhythms that would, I think, have yielded genuine suspense had they involved characters that weren’t complete yawns.” RogerEbert.com

“There is just no hook here. A pack of obnoxious kids enters a haunted house and have their heads handed to them by an evil entity. Ho-hum. Still, Martin shows some consistent skill. Delirium could be considered a step up from Hangman, if anyone notices it. Only recommended for horror fans desperate for a fix…” Joe Bendel, J.B. Spins

“Despite my sheer indifference to the narrative and my active dislike of the characters, I should point out that mid-fifties former stuntman Johnny Martin knows his way around a camera. Were he thirty years younger he’d probably be described as “promising.” As it stands, I was mostly left wondering how he feels having this thing as his feature debut…” Ready Steady Cut
