MANOS RETURNS (2018) Reviews and overview

Manos Returns is a 2018 American horror feature film directed by Tonjia Atomic from a screenplay written with co-producer Rachel Jackson and Jackey Neyman Jones.

A very belated sequel to Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966), widely recognised as one of the worst films of all-timeManos Returns was created by Jackey Neyman Jones who portrayed Debbie in the original movie.

Four friends get lost on a road trip and stumble on a hidden cult lead by the sinister Master and his servant Torgo. As they try to escape, they get caught up in the power struggle between Debbie, given to Manos as a child fifty years ago, her mother Maggie, and the other souls twisted by their time serving the dark god…

Manos Returns isn’t a strong film, and there’s reason to condemn its very existence, but the weirder it gets, the better it is. Sadly, without a budget or a professional cast, the production becomes a bore even at 61 minutes in length, unable to connect to the original Manos with its deliberate bad movie consciousness.”

“The low budget hurts the film a lot as the level of menace they try to create is undercut a bit by how ‘meh’ things look.  I don’t want to be negative- they tried here.  The goal was to make a love letter to and better film than Manos: The Hands of Fate.  They succeeded (almost too well) at the first part, but I hesitate to say that they did with the latter.  As bad as Manos is, it is still memorable.  This one…” Mondo Bizarro

“The ending is okay, I guess, and we get one decent bloody scene.  On the plus side, it’s only an hour long.  I can’t quite call it “good”, but I admire the fact that it knew when to quit. Overall, Manos Returns is better than the original.  That wasn’t difficult to do I’m sure, but still.  It may have its share of flaws, but it’s about as good as a fifty-two years later sequel to one of the worst movies of all time could be.” The Video Vacuum
