‘Anthony Peterson has 24 hours of air, a cell phone and no way out’

[Cargo] is a 2018 American psychological thriller film  written and directed by James Dylan. The movie stars Ron Thompson, Danika Fields and Corbin Timbrook.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by Tangerine Dream‘s Thorsten Quaeschning.

Plot:

Successful businessman Anthony Peterson (Ron Thompson) wakes up to find himself locked inside a dark empty cargo container. He receives a call on his mobile phone from a mystery man who informs him that if he doesn’t raise ten million dollars in ransom money within 24 hours, he and his wife will be murdered. Using just his phone he must find a way to get this money using whatever means he can…

Reviews:

Cargo builds up the tension over its one hour twenty minute timeline.  At times I was disappointed, just sure this was a safe movie, then they’d surprise me.  It’s all ultimately implied via the call of course but it works at times quite effectively.  Other times it’s a little clunky yet they drop in and out of these scenes so quickly I fell right into it just like they were aiming for.” Freddie Beans, Ain’t It Cool News

“If the whole of the film is meant to be allegorical, a certain amount of mystery in the ending is to be expected, however, the execution of [Cargo] seems far more literal, which should result in a more specific finale. Considering the thoughtful thematic work underneath [Cargo], it’s a shame that the execution of the film doesn’t quite match the intent. ” Douglas Davidson, Elements of Madness

“I was expecting a serious and bleak horror, instead I got something that was joyously silly at its core, a plot that felt like it was ripped from a video game, and a fun performance by the main lead in what had to be a challenging role. For something that takes place solely in a dark shipping container this sure was riveting stuff!” Daniel Simmonds, The Rotting Zombie

“Filmed 100% inside container with only one person (Ron Thompson) on screen, and him being in almost every single shot, the whole things still stays totally interesting, tense and suspenseful throughout, thanks not only to a brilliant script that succeeds in blurring the lines between good and evil quite a bit, but also to a great performance…” Mike Haberfelner, Search My Trash
