The La Llorona Curse – formerly Her Cry: La Llorona Investigation – is a 2013 [released in 2019] American found footage horror feature film photographed and directed by Damir Catic (The Other Side; short: The Lost) from a screenplay co-written with co-producer Ron Gelner. The latter also stars alongside Nichole Ceballos and James Ezrin.

The father of a missing teen contacts the creators of a reality show called ‘Paranormal Legends’ to inquire about one of their episodes from a past season, claiming that show had something to do with his daughter Tina’s disappearance.

In order to help the father, the creator of the series James Roberson and his producer Brian, along with newcomer to the show Andrea, took a trip to the place where some say La Llorona (The Weeping woman) was seen. They decided to film the new season there to help shed some light on Tina’s disappearance.

Not listening to numerous warnings and facing unseen forces, their trip to the place ‘where it all began’ turns into a horrifying nightmare. The police found seventeen hours of tapes from season four…

“I would recommend this film only to people that are curious to see a different take on the story of la llorona, but I do warn that the acting is extremely bad and that if you can get past that, and the at times complex set up of the plot, then it could be a somewhat bearable and even mildly entertaining film.” The Chicana/o Gothic

“There are a lot of dirt cheap found footage horror films that work, this one does not. This may be the worst “movie” ( I’m being generous by calling it that) that I’ve ever watched. Truly, laughably horrible.” H. Campbell

“Dialogue is frequently hard to hear or outright inaudible. I’m not sure if this is intentional, like the assorted static and video glitches, or not. Either way, it’s annoying as hell and frequently made it harder to figure out what was going on. Not that The La Llorna Curse would have been a classic with good sound. It does come up with a few twists in the final act but overall it’s a pretty generic found footage film.” Jim Morazzini, Voices from the Balcony
