DO NOT REPLY (2019) Reviews and overview

Do Not Reply is a 2019 American horror feature film about a high school introvert who is abducted through a social media app and is forced to look like other girls being held captive.

Written and directed by Daniel and Walt Woltosz, the Iron Compass Entertainment production stars Jackson Rathbone, Amanda Arcuri, Kerri Medders, Elise Luthman, Ashlee Füss, Ivon Millan and Courtney Henggeler.

Chelsea (Arcuri) is hoping to make new friends at the local Halloween party. However, she is abducted by someone with a strange desire to bring his sister back to life.

Unfortunately, Chelsea is not alone. She and several other girls must make it out of this deranged lunatic’s bunker if they ever hope to see the light of day again…

” …there is a good idea here, and they do manage to offer up an intriguing concept about the dangers of dating apps. Perhaps if this happens to come on Netflix and you’ve got nothing else to watch, you may find some entertainment in this independent chiller.” Arrow in the Head

“Cautionary and eerie in its realism, the film utilizes its strengths to haunt you into the thought of deleting your profile. We all know that you are not going to, but taking the ride is still twisted enough to be disturbing.” Cryptic Rock

“Considering some of the clumsiness with how the movie comes together, e.g. one girl’s deep Stockholm Syndrome sees a serendipitous cure in five seconds, it’s difficult to find a reason to recommend Do Not Reply […] Megan Is Missing and The Poughkeepsie Tapes, have already presented this plot more successfully.” Culture Crypt

Do Not Reply is held back by its steady inaction, and when it finally comes time to move the balance between character bravery and stupidity is constantly wobbling. Still, the ending works as it makes an unlikely choice survivor-wise and takes a moment to deliver a PSA. Whether any adults or teens will listen is another story.” Film School Rejects

“While it strives to be as realistic as possible, a few cracks do show on occasion. Aside from that, though, the movie works brilliantly. The cast is dynamic and engaging, the characters are well rounded, and the direction is quite atmospheric.” Film Threat

” …often feels as if it is stretching out the run-time of tech-centric psycho killings from what should have been formatted for a twenty-minute short. Brad’s VR killer helmet is an unusual and creative use of wardrobe, but quickly loses its charm; lacking in any sinister facial features that audiences crave from their horror icons.” Horror Buzz

“The acting is subpar and though Rathbone’s take on intermittent insanity is quite entertaining (maybe he should have gone for chilling), it gets thin quickly […] The plot has so much potential but fails to provide any real substance or scares and the relationships are quite wooden.” Nightmarish Conjurings

Do Not Reply will be released in North American on video-on-demand (VOD) by Gravitas Ventures on October 2nd 2020.
