Cube is a 2021 Japanese horror film about six men and women trapped inside a mysterious cube-shaped space from which they have to escape. It is a remake of the 1997 film of the same name directed by Vincenzo Natali (In the Tall Grass) and an executive producer of this movie.
Directed by Yasuhiko Shimizu, the film was released in Japan on October 22nd 2021.
“It’s actually so bad that all the babbling and all the flashbacks do not allow any of the excitement to happen until there are only 20 minutes left of the film. Then you lighten the handbrake, and give us basically the same thing as the first original film did… It’s a bit of an anticlimax all over even if we were offered some really yummy deaths.” 2/5 Film Paradiset [translated from Swedish]
“Undoubtedly, it is inferior to the original, but it is worth checking out just for the production design and top-notch sound editing, which really enhances the viewing experience. It is an okay horror flick for one viewing only.” Watching Asia Film Reviews
The new Cube was apparently filmed in 2020.
