‘Don’t bite off more than you can chew’
Chompy and the Girls is a 2021 American comedy horror film about a strange surreal killer that eats young girls whole. And then the girls themselves attack…

Written and directed by Skye Braband. Produced by Skye Braband, Sarah de Leon, Chelsea Fenton and Marty Lang.

The movie stars Christy St. John, Steve Marvel, Julie Dolan, Seneca Paliotta, Hari Williams and features the voice of Udo Kier.

Plot:
A troubled young woman meets her father for the first time only to be interrupted when a man in the park opens his mouth four feet wide and swallow a ten-year-old whole. This sends them on a wild ride full of interdimensional entities, scary little girls, and crippling insecurities about the future…

Reviews:
“The strangeness of the storyline pulls one in right off the bat. Chemistry between the two leads (Steve Marvel and Christy St. John) is energetic and fun, and the visual look of Chompy himself is striking. My only complaint is that the ending feels a little too silly and easy, but when one’s first film is this quirky and singular, who really cares?” Josh at the Movies

“The bizarre wackiness of the film is made all the more by the lack of explanations of what is going on […] The characters seem to walk through reacting to everything with perfect deadpan. In this respect, Christy St. John and Steve Marvel, both unknown faces, give fine performances and deliver everything in perfect character, he in particular doing a great job of getting down the dull, milquetoast man.” ★★★ Moria

Chompy & The Girls is, more than anything else, a missed opportunity. A different heroine might have improved things a bit, but better performances could not have resolved the script’s fundamental flaws. That said, it provides just enough trippy surprises, scares, and (mild) laughs to keep viewers entertained.” ★★½ Philosophy in Film

“My one quibble about the film is at the end when two characters make a declaration which is completely at odds with their body language. But I suppose it may just be one of those “defying expectations” moments […] Chompy and the Girls is fast, funny, inventive, well-written and beautifully absurd.  We really need more films like this.” Rivets on the Poster

“Granted, the film may not be the scariest movie of 2021 and it’s for sure not the goriest, but Chompy & The Girls is certainly unsettling enough to fit into our favorite genre. It’s got its funny moments, its tense moments, and its WTF? moments. It was also made with a lot of heart and, in the end, that’s what really sets it apart.” ★★★, The Scariest Things

Chompy and the Girls is quite a unique experience, basically because it manages to capture an anything-goes concept with touches of surrealism and absurdism, but packs it all in a well-structured story that might be fittingly low on explanations but high on narrative structure, and that manages for horror and comedy to co-exist on a non-moronic and non-gross-out level.” Search My Trash

“It’s got an original central idea but it doesn’t treat it as a gimmick. Chompy, his mouth, his mission and what’s behind the multiple copies of Birch are all woven together by the film’s story. And the same is true for the film’s human characters. They’re developed, have story arcs and, for the most part, their actions make sense. And, perhaps most unusual of all, it’s a horror-comedy where the laughs don’t come from gore and gross-out gags.” Voices from the Balcony
