Finland’s Independence Day celebration on December 6th is interrupted by an attack on the Presidential Palace. A set of distinguished guests are taken as hostages. Security service officer Max Tanner (Jasper Pääkkönen) is set as the negotiator of the hostage crisis and soon it is clear that the main target behind the terrorist attack is a plan to destabilize the security of Europe.
Tanner must make bold and even painful decisions to figure out who is behind the attack. After all, there are not only human lives to protect, but the future of Europe as a whole…
“Thawed-out Finnish action thriller Attack on Finland dutifully follows the set of instructions that came in the box. It’s competently put together, but the constructed product is indistinguishable from anything else assembled from those same standardized directions.” The Austin Chronicle
“The scope and spectacle of Attack’s action sequences go well beyond the standard of typical VOD fare. It also has a lot to say about Russia and the EU, implying the value of potential NATO membership […] It is entertaining and ever so of the moment. Enthusiastically recommended…” J.B. Spins
“The third act of Attack on Finland gives us yet another villain, answers a couple of questions, has Max offering a particularly awful one-liner (You’ll know it, for sure), and leaves so many threads hanging that the existence of this conspiracy comes across as a prelude to a sequel. That might explain why the plot is so impenetrable, but it doesn’t account for the movie’s unearned—or completely accidental—cynicism and its boring, blank-slate heroes.” 1.5 out of 4, Mark Reviews Movies
“Despite not quite fully delivering on the promise of its thrilling set up there is still much to enjoy here. Louhimies’ film does not attempt to reinvent the action wheel, so Attack on Finland is simply content to be a solid action-thriller. Sometimes, that is all you need.” That Shelf
“For a director whose list of credits is heavy on drama, Louhimies does a good job of building up the suspense and keeping Attack on Finland tight […] covers a lot of familiar material, but it does a good job of covering it. The European perspective and the Finnish locations also make a nice change of pace…” 3.5 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
