The Old Way is a 2022 American Western about an old gunslinger and his daughter who must face the consequences of his past when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take revenge.

Directed and co-produced by actor-filmmaker Brett Donowho (Acts of Violence; Souls; Haunting at Silver Falls; No Tell Motel; Salvation U.S.A. and The Sacred) from a screenplay written by Carl W. Lucas. Also produced by Micah Haley, Robert Paschall Jr., R. Bryan Wright and Sasha Yelaun.

The movie stars Nicolas Cage, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, Abraham Benrubi, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Nick Searcy, Shiloh Fernandez, Noah Le Gros, Boyd Kestner, Dean Armstrong, Adam Lazarre-White and Skyler Stone.

“When an outlaw and his gang put Colton (Nicolas Cage) and his family in peril, Colton is forced to take up arms with an unlikely partner — his twelve-year-old daughter Brooke (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) — in this action-filled film that builds toward its fateful showdown with pulse-pounding suspense.”

“Lengthy fireside chats, action-packed shootouts, and trekking across beautiful-looking locales are this movie’s bread and butter. Brushing all of this aside, screenwriter Carl W. Lucas makes some interesting commentary on the damage the dead leave behind, one’s legacy, and how to find a way to continue living in the midst of terrible pain. Cage and Armstrong are certainly up to the task…” Josh at the Movies

” …it’s watchable. It’s alright. Nothing about it is terrible, and its merits stand out just enough to balance out what either doesn’t quite work or is too basic to excel. Diehard Nicolas Cage fans will definitely find the film worth watching just for his great work, and those who can’t get enough of Westerns should have enough positive takeaways to be glad they saw it as well.” Loud and Clear

“It’s very much True Grit with a bit of the dark humor of his arc in Kick-Ass, and Cage and Armstrong play it beautifully. We see the evolution of their relationship throughout the film’s 95 minutes, and it is a wonderful experience. Beyond Cage and Armstrong, the rest of the cast helps with the heavy lifting compared to Brett Donowho’s serviceable, but very basic, filmmaking.” Sonic Cinema

“Even though it only runs 95 minutes, the simplicity of the film should’ve inspired a few minutes to end up on the cutting room floor as the movie runs out of things to process. Not quite the rebirth of the Western like many still yearn for, The Old Way is nonetheless a reliable retelling of the titular old ways with an odd relationship and strong acting at its center. Cowboy Cage fits the saddle well.” 3 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
