Reviews:
“Fear is generally irritating to watch, as performances are lackluster, editing is sloppy, and cinematography isn’t adventurous, sticking with the genre basics. The sound design is doing all the heavy lifting, creating a noisy endeavor, and one that finally gets around to banging on phobias in the final act, but doing so without much attention to the specifics of fear. Taylor isn’t a capable filmmaker…” 1 out of 5, Blu-ray.com
“At a certain point, the ridiculousness wears thin. Nevertheless, Fear’s final act also happens to be its most fun and ambitious. House on Haunted Hill mode has been firmly activated as the friends race against the clock to survive a night at the Strawberry Lodge. If only the entire affair had been as ridiculous/fun as its home stretch.” 2.5 out of 5 stars, Josh at the Movies
” ….the deaths go all the way back to those awkwardly established and quickly forgotten fears, while also occurring so quickly that there’s no suspense to these scenes. There’s little thought behind the narrative of Fear on a foundational level. The result is a horror movie that plays as a hodgepodge of alternately frustrating and laughable clichés.” 1 out of 5, Mark Reviews Movies
“Fear would dearly love to be an examination of how we as human beings deal with the titular emotion, but the pedantic approach and lack of focus work against that ambition. And the ultimate message, as espoused by Rom, is that the way to deal with fear is to stop letting it affect you, and ignore its source–a dubious message at best to apply to a COVID-based situation.” Rue Morgue
“Like how action movies have just enough story to set up a chase or fight scene, so does Fear have just enough story to introduce a demonic figure and kill off its characters. The story of brujas introduced is weak and doesn’t make the arrival of whatever is trying to kill someone notable. It’s just this thing which needs to feed on souls and hasn’t eaten in almost eight years.” Wherever I Look
