Cocaine Bear is a 2023 American thriller film inspired by the true story of a black bear that ate cocaine dropped by a smuggler.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels) from a screenplay written by Jimmy Warden (Borderline; The Babysitter: Killer Queen). Produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The movie stars Keri Russell (The Americans), Margo Martindale (The Watcher), Ray Liotta (Hannibal; Unforgettable; Goodfellas), Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr (Ingrid Goes West), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Kahyun Kim (Bad Match), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), and Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project).

Plot:
In 1985, a black bear was found dead in Kentucky after eating roughly $15 million worth of coke from a duffle bag dropped from a drug smuggler’s aeroplane. That smuggler was part of one of the elite Kentucky horse-breeding families and fell to his death when he bailed out of the plane. Prior to its death, the bear went on a coke-fuelled rampage…

Release:
In the US, Cocaine Bear will be released theatrically on February 24, 2023.

Film facts:
Cocaine Bear was filmed in County Wicklow, Ireland in August 2021.

Unfortunately, Ray Liotta died during post-production. This will be the last movie released after his death.
