Reviews:
” …as impressive as the cinematography and effects are, an insufficient and unfocused story holds the film back. The human drama is uninteresting and, worst of all, the monsters become neglected over time. This “Thaiju” entry has merit as a technical exercise, but it ultimately ends up being too tame and unguided for its own good.” 2.5 out of 5, Bloody Disgusting

“The cinematography is incredible […]Thongkham manages to balance a great story with plenty of monster action, something that the recent Godzilla films have failed to reconcile. While its final twist is slightly drawn out this doesn’t take much away from what is one of the most original monster movies of recent years.” Bloody Flicks

“Disjointed and lacking a credible story or script, The Lake fails to pack a punch. It’s plain to see that quite some effort has gone into the making of the film, but it just isn’t enough to make it a coherent watch. Unfortunately, it doesn’t even make it into the ‘so bad it’s good’ monster movie bracket…” 1 out of 5, Horror Cult Films

“Unintentional humour aside, this film was quite well made with some amazing special effects that fit into the storyline well. The only exception would be the crazy amount of gas canister explosions that really were overused. The monster was certainly more amusing than it was scary but it could have looked far worse.” Horror Screams Video Vault

“Writer Lee Thongkham (The Last One, Tears of Remedy) and co-director Aqing Xu squander an excellent beginning and production values on a plot that loses itself in domestic subplots involving barely developed characters […] It does have a few good scenes and interesting ideas, but they’re not worth putting up with the rest of the film to see.” 2 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
