Reviews:
“I could go on and on about Alice, Darling and all the abusive notes it hits, or the different interpretations of the imagery. Francis and Nighy came together to create a truly beautiful film about something so incredibly ugly that almost everyone will be able to identify with it in some way. Alice, Darling is going to start a conversation, a long overdue one.” 8 out of 10, CGM Backlot magazine
“Kendrick matches the emotional intensity with uncomfortable physicality – the tics and twitches she uses as coping mechanisms, the compulsive behaviors and disordered eating that signal to her friends, and to the audience, the direness of her situation. By the midpoint, we’re tuned into the way she breathes from scene to scene, and what it tells us about her turmoil, and she has a panic attack scene that’s her most raw, vulnerable, and delicate acting to date.” Crooked Marquee
“Alice, Darling is all about character and examining interior thought and how that manifests outward when negative and harmful thoughts are kept inside. These ideas turn on you, making you think what’s happening is your fault. The point of Francis’ script wasn’t to create a film about victims and abusers — it’s about addressing your fears and utilizing your support system to do so.” Deadline

“Mosaku and Horn are both excellent, their every line and decision made to ring true, an authentic dynamic that leads to an incredibly moving moment of extreme protection in the last act. It’s a chilling little film, avoiding maximalism at every turn, a bold debut from Nighy (whose only real slip-up is a score that can feel dull and uninspired) and a difficult reminder of a difficult experience.” 4 out of 5, The Guardian
“Anchored by Kendrick’s best performance in years and Francis’ incisive script, Alice, Darling is a visceral, deeply felt clarion call, not just for more awareness of the signs of emotional, intimate partner violence but also as a reminder to those who have experienced this abuse to allow themselves some grace. Grade: B The Playlist
“The film’s sluggish pacing is unnecessary, as are the half-a-dozen scenes of Alice pulling out her own hair […] There’s also a distasteful subplot about a missing girl who is presumed to be dead. This storyline serves as a heavy-handed metaphor that’s tacky and obnoxious, suggesting that is Alice doesn’t leave Simon, she’ll end up murdered in the woods someday, too.” Screen Zealots
