Reviews:
“Cassavetes, once a genre-hopping mainstay […] is on a showboating bender. But it’s the mindset of somebody selling a ’90s heavy metal music video — foregrounding carnival scuzzballs, delighting in brutality, lighting up a desert massacre with fireworks — instead of a storyteller genuinely interested in the push and pull of a bleak crime saga tipping toward irreversible decisions.” Los Angeles Times

“It’s clear that Cassavetes is counting on the sinister nature of the cult, which makes a habit of kidnapping girls and murdering them in ritual sacrifice, and the enigma of some of these characters to compensate for the predictable plotting […] The whole of God Is a Bullet is moody and disturbing on the surface. The movie’s look and feel, though, are as thin as its characters, plotting, and philosophical musings.” 1.5 out of 4, Mark Reviews Movies

“As Bob and Case, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Maika Monroe capture the personalities of characters who are often as scary to watch as anyone else onscreen. Their shared intensity starts high and kicks quickly into overdrive, which animates the film past the breaking point […] It’s an unflinching depiction of desperation and feels like a punch in the gut, over and over and over again.” Screen Anarchy (owned by XYZ Films)

“As I still try and figure out the purpose of this film collectively, the movie might only be fit for people who live and breathe action films because the film didn’t even live up to its cult narrative. To see big stars in this film such as Jamie Foxx saddens me because, quite literally, the film seems to rely so heavily on the performances that it seems unconfident as a narrative.” 1.5 out of 5, Wyatt’s Takes
