‘Designed. Grown. Loved. Feared.’
Isaac is a 2023 British sci-fi horror drama about a couple that take part in a trial to raise a genetically modified baby.

Written and directed by Tariq Sayed. The Diamondback Pictures production stars Johnny Vivash, Catriona MacColl (The Beyond; House By the Cemetery; City of the Living Dead), Bosco Hogan and Kathryn Louise.

Plot:
After losing their first child to a genetic disease, grief-stricken parents Nicholas and Sarah become one of ten couples to enrol on a unique clinical trial launched by the GEO Group; an established cellular meat company using its technology to create genetically modified babies.

The plan is to overcome the cruelty of nature. But are the experiments the single greatest scientific event in the history of mankind, or the beginning of an unimaginable epic nightmare?

Reviews:

“That in the foreseeable future people could be living out similar scenarios to those portrayed in Isaac, is chilling […] Science-fiction always works best when based in fact, and Isaac is an exemplary example. The addition of the paternal plight further enriches Sayed’s debut and positions him as a director to keep track of.” ★★★★ The Hollywood News

“A low-key, intense, disturbing essay in Frankensteinian mad science […] Sayed keeps the title character hidden, which gives him an It’s Alive aura of menace and focuses the drama on Nicholas’ agonies. Set in an isolated farm, with extraneous characters rigorously excluded, the film has a classical, crisp look in its detached studies of a barren landscape and a cosy home turned into a trap.” The Kim Newman Web Site

“The story of Isaac and Nicholas ends with a revenge-fueled, psychologically brutal, return to nature featuring a tasteful twist that is equally shocking and satisfying. Isaac leaves one to reflect on humanity’s separation from nature, the karmic results of man’s hubris, and how it all comes to an end in the dirt.” ★★★½ Love Horror

“This is an excellent horror that manages to keep everything off-screen. We are left to watch as Nicholas sees his world come apart, while only letting us know of the consequence of what has been happening. Not letting us know what is happening leaves us with an even more disturbing vision of reality.” ★★★★ Movie Reviews 101

“The science fiction may be worn lightly here, in what is essentially a cottage-bound three-hander – or four-hander, once the couple’s old physician Dr Arthur Guria (Bosco Hogan) turns up to provide some awkward if necessary exposition – but at heart this is a classic tale of corporate immorality, hubristic technology and individual collapse, where the seeds of loss, once planted, yield only toxic nourishment.” Projected Figures
