Monsters of California is a 2022 American sci-fi mystery film about a teenager and his friends investigating a series of paranormal events.

Directed and co-produced by Angels & Airwaves and former Blink-182 singer-songwriter Tom DeLonge [as Thomas DeLonge] from a screenplay co-written with Ian Miller. DeLonge will perform original music for the film. Also produced by Russell Binder, Anthony Fankhauser, Kami Norton, Stan Spry and Eric Scott Woods.

The movie stars Jack Samson (Zodiac), Camille Kostek (Free Guy), Casper Van Dien (Salvage Marines), Richard Kind (The Watcher), Jared Scott and Arianne Zucker.

“The film takes my fascination with the unexplained, combines it with the skate culture I grew up a part of, and tosses in my ridiculous sense of humour that millions got to witness during my Blink-182 days,” DeLonge said in a statement shared by Gizmodo today. “In recent years, I’ve had the good fortune of helping the government remember how much they care about UFOs through the work we do at To The Stars, and it’s that experience which helped inspire this movie. I can’t wait for audiences to see the f*cked up fun adventure these kids go on.”

Reviews:
Monsters of California does nothing right. Nothing. The characters are one-dimensional and dull. The performances (Richard Kind aside) are boring. The pacing is glacial, with scenes going on far longer than they need to. The visual effects are cheap. A bland domestic drama is inserted into the proceedings…” The Aisle Seat

“Overall, Monsters of California is a fine first film for Tom DeLonge, which could have been even better. “All the small things” add up, to quote a title from Blink-182. I’m sure that Tom did his best with the limited time and budget resources. Fans of DeLonge’s bands should definitely give this supernatural adventure flick a watch because the same Blink sensibilities may have them “feeling this.” 6 out of 10, Film Threat

“The whole of the narrative feels thrown together in such a haphazard way, as if the screenwriters started with an idea about how supernatural occurrences are real and just threw a bunch of them, a conspiracy plot, and the premises of some old movies they once saw together, hoping for the best.” 1 out of 4, Mark Reviews Movies

“Flaws aside, and despite being a little light on horror, Monsters of California successfully manages to blend in different genres and ultimately take us on a fun little adventure. It’s worth a look, especially if you want an entertaining watch with the family but keep your expectations low.” 6 out of 10, Upcoming Horror Movies
