‘You can’t hide from it’
Hemisphere is a 2023 American sci-fi mystery thriller about two young female astronauts facing off against merciless space hijackers.
Written and directed by Chris Maes (short: Dead Air). The Trujillo Creek Pictures production stars Julie Kashmanian, Paige Rion and Eduardo José Paco Mateo.
Plot:
Forensic investigator Sandra Ramirez (Paige Rion) accepts a mission to explore an abandoned mining outpost near Mercury, where she stumbles upon solitary crew member Phoebe Westover (Julie Kashmanian) who is in hiding. She learns that a group of merciless space hijackers will soon return to finish their job…
Reviews:
“Without spoilers, there’s always the mystery within the mystery. The other revelation plays out well, thanks to Chris Maes’ screenplay […] Hemisphere may not look like a multi-million dollar sci-fi tale, but damn if I wasn’t reminded a lot of the early days of Doctor Who when I was a wee lad in the 70s. It’s a low-budget sci-fi thriller with a lot of heart.” 7.5/10, Film Threat
“Since Maes also wrote the script, he might not have achieved the distance from the material that would have indicated to a different director that the third act of the story needed further revision. “Hemisphere” is what might be called an interesting failure in that it doesn’t quite work, yet there’s enough skill and intelligence on display that you’re not sorry to have spent 90 minutes watching it.” ★★½ North Shore Movies
