‘A story of two ladies going South’
Drive-Away Dolls is a 2024 comedy crime thriller about two lesbians on the road who cross paths with some bumbling thieves.
Directed and co-produced by Ethan Coen, formerly of the Coen Brothers (Blood Simple; A Serious Man; True Grit; Inside Llewyn Davis; Hail Caesar!; The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) from a screenplay co-written with his wife Tricia Cooke. Also produced by Tim Bevan, Tricia Cooke, Eric Fellner, and Robert Graf.
The movie stars Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp, Beanie Feldstein, Annie Gonzalez and Joey Slotnick.
Plot:
Jamie (Margaret Qualley) is an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend; her demure friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) who desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the pair embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, Florida, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way…
Reception:
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 71% of 63 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.5/10. Metacritic assigned the film a score of 64 out of 100, based on 27 critics, indicating “generally favorable” reviews.
Release date:
In the US, Drive-Away Dolls will be released theatrically by Focus Features on February 23, 2024. The film will be released in the UK by Working Title on March 15, 2024.
