Plot:
1989: An unpopular high schooler named Lisa (Kathryn Newton) accidentally brings a handsome Victorian corpse (Dylan Sprouse) back to life during a lightning storm. Using a broken tanning bed in her garage, she tries to mould him into her dream man…

Reviews:
Lisa Frankenstein isn’t a stunningly original creation, with much of the offering pulled from better movies, and it’s surprisingly low on laughs. It’s Cody returning to her Juno days with broad dialogue and limp humor, striving to blend gore and goofballery with this disappointing effort, and Williams also struggles to find her own tonal balance, unable to capture a special insanity.” ★★ Blu-ray.com

“Newton sings just like an enthusiastic but almost tone-deaf teen, which adds to its charm. But the killings that follow, the bodies that must be disposed of and lack of anything like chemistry between our lead characters (it’s the writing, not the acting) fail to deliver anything remotely resembling a story that needed telling or a movie one feels the need to stay through to the bitter — and I do mean bitter — end.” ★ Movie Nation

“While some of the visuals, supernatural humor, and even an opening Corpse Bride-esque animated sequence continue the Tim Burton similarities, the film isnt nearly sly enough or grisly enough to make much of an impression […] While Focus Features wants this to be seen as a Valentine’s Day date film for teens, Newton and Sprouse don’t really click on a romantic level. They work better together during the comically murderous moments when Lisa gives in to her oddball sensibilities and he ratchets up the body count to impress her.” ★★ Punch Drunk Critics

” …director Zelda Williams and writer Diablo Cody’s (“Jennifer’s Body,” “Tully”) attempt to merge Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride” with his “Edward Scissorhands” is mostly notable for its unlikable characters.  A live-action dream sequence aping those opening credits (production design by “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’s” Mark Worthington), nods to silent movie director G.W. Pabst, a “Rocky Horror” reference and a few choice soundtrack selections are not enough to save this film.” D+ Reeling Reviews

“Ultimately, Cody and Williams deliver an enjoyable enough horror comedy, but not anything particularly revelatory […] it’d be best to keep expectations low because, despite having the same screenwriter as Jennifer’s Body, it doesn’t seem like Lisa Frankenstein is headed toward either cult or wider pop culture success. It’s a fun, but forgettable movie.” Screen Rant
