Little Shop of Halloween Horrors is a forthcoming remake of the Roger Corman-directed 1960 low-budget movie about an awkward young man who raises a plant, discovers it is carnivorous, and kills to keep it fed. The film is being touted as a “reimagining intended to jumpstart a new franchise.”
The movie is set to be directed by Joe Dante (Nightmare Cinema; Small Soldiers; The Burbs; Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch; The Howling, Piranha) from a screenplay by Charles S. Haas (Matinee; Gremlins 2: The New Batch). Roger Corman will produce.
The project has been in development since 2009 when Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 3, 4 and 5) was going to direct. Greg Berlanti (Life As We Know It) was also previously attached to helm.
The original 1960 film was turned into an Off-Broadway musical, which would later serve as the basis for the 1986 remake.
