Black Christmas is a 1974 Canadian slasher horror film co-produced and directed by Bob Clark (Deathdream; Murder by Decree) from a screenplay by A. Roy Moore. Also released as Silent Night, Evil Night and Stranger in the House
The movie stars Olivia Hussey (It 1990; The Cat and the Canary), Keir Dullea (Full Circle), Margot Kidder (The Reincarnation of Peter Proud; Sisters), John Saxon (A Nightmare on Elm Street; Tenebrae; Cannibal Apocalypse; Night Caller from Outer Space), Marian Waldman (Deranged), Andrea Martin (Cannibal Girls), James Edmond, Douglas McGrath, Art Hindle, Lynne Griffin, Michael Rapport, Les Carlson, Martha Gibson, John Rutter, Dave Clement, Julian Reed and the voice of Nick Mancuso (Lost Souls; Death Ship; Nightwing).
The film follows a group of college students who must face a deranged serial killer lurking in their sorority house. The movie was inspired by an urban legend called “The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs“, but was also largely based on a series of murders that took place in Quebec, Canada, around Christmas time. It is considered one of the first North American slasher films.
A remake of the same name, executive produced by Clark, was released on 25 December 2006. A second remake, basically in name only, and with a massively unsubtle feminist take on the basic plot, was released in 2019.
Plot:
A sorority house is terrorised by a stranger who makes frightening phone calls and then murders the sorority sisters during Christmas break…
