COWGIRLS VS. PTERODACTYLS (2021) Review and overview

Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls is a 2021 American action horror film about a malicious plesiosaur that terrorises settlers in the Wild West. After her husband is taken by the pterodactyl, a schoolteacher enlists the help of a cathouse madam and a gunslinger to rescue him.

Written and directed by Joshua Kennedy (House of the Gorgon; The Night of Medusa; Dracula A.D. 2015) the Gooey Film Productions movie stars Madelyn Wiley, Haley Zega, Carmen Vienhage and Dani Thompson. Genre veteran Martine Beswick (From a Whisper to a Scream; Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde; Slave Girls) is the narrator.

“The special effects in this 2021 movie are bad, very, very bad. Trust me. But it is part of what makes it fun to watch a movie such as this […] The acting in Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls was as to be expected for a movie of this caliber. So you know what you are getting here […] Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls is a campy movie for a particular audience that enjoy these types of bad horrible B-movies.” Paul Haakonsen

Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls isn’t a SyFy styled creature feature. It’s more of a somewhat silly tribute to Harryhausen’s films with scenes that reference them […] If you grew up on his films, or are a fan of them you may enjoy Cowgirls vs. Pterodactyls […] As somebody who did watch them growing up, I thought it was enjoyably nostalgic. But I wouldn’t have minded a bit more action either.” Voices from the Balcony
