‘Let there be blood’
Johnny & Clyde is a 2022 American supernatural thriller about two serial killers who are madly in love and on an endless crime spree. They have their sights set on robbing a prosperous casino – owned by crime boss Alana and guarded by a demonic slayer that she commands.
Directed by Tom DeNucci (Vault) from a screenplay co-written with Nick Principe (Laid to Rest).
The Verdi Productions movie stars Megan Fox (Till Death; Rogue: Jennifer’s Body), Vanessa Angel (Kingpin), Bai Ling, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap), Ajani Russell (Betty), Tyson Ritter (Preacher), Robert LaSardo (The Mule), Armen Garo (The Departed), Sean Ringgold (American Gangster), Nick Principe (Vault), Brett Azar (Young Rock), Sydney Jenkins (Don’t Look Up) and Charles W. Harris III (Glass).
Plot:
Two serial killers (Avan Jogia and Ajani Russell) are madly in love and on a seemingly endless crime spree. They ultimately set their sights on robbing a prosperous casino run by a crime boss, Alana (Megan Fox), and guarded by Guy (Tyson Ritter) her head of security – a demonic slayer that she commands.
In an interview, co-writer Principe told Bloody Disgusting: “…it starts off as a crime/heist picture, but once they get trapped in the cash room it’s definitely balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror. Instead of vampires, it’s just one big, spooky supernatural slasher.”
DeNucci explained further: “Megan Fox’s character is very dark. I don’t want to give away too much, but visually we wanted her to almost be like a Disney princess, but a messed up, very dark, twisted version of that. Her look is just incredible … this kind of almost evil princess character. I went into a weird kind of Disney path.”
Review:
“Similarly, the basic plotline had potential but the script spends too much time trying to be edgy and too little time coming up with anything that’s actually entertaining. The actual robbery itself is mildly diverting but easily could have been much better […] If you like the kind of edgy films where everyone is a scumbag and the most likable of them is a nonverbal demon, you might enjoy Johnny & Clyde.” 1.5 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
