Reviews:
” …the attempts at B-movie thrills mostly succeed, and the characterization goes farther than expected in keeping you invested. Its anti-poaching messaging remains only surface level, but the performances led by Idris Elba are convincing, and it’s well crafted in its visual storytelling. Beast may not bite as hard as it’d like, but it’s entertaining enough while it lasts.” 3 out of 5, Bloody Disgusting

Beast is an effective B-movie thriller that overcomes its mediocre writing with well-shot sequences and a solid lead performance by Idris Elba.” CGM Backlot

“There are moments to praise both man and beast, effectively showing the balance in characterization and thrills, overcoming the familiarity of the experience. Idris Elba also enters beast mode and punches a lion in the face, which is worth the price of admission itself.” Flickering Myth

“Elba, always a powerful presence in whatever role he takes on, does the best he can in “Beast,” but the threadbare nature of the plotting and dialogue ultimately defeats him.” Seattle Times

Everest director Baltasar Kormakur crafts his man-versus-wild-animal drama with some niftily tense suspense sequences that split the difference between compelling and cheesy. But whether it’s the so-so CGI or the threadbare character development, Beast frustratingly refuses to aspire to be more than a competent, disposable actioner.” Screen Daily

“Elba is an incredibly physical performer who instinctively comes up with little bits of business to reveal the personality of his character. The ending is ludicrous, and yet it works because of all that Elba has invested in making this protective papa convincing. That’s the beauty of Beast: The lion may look fake, but the stakes feel real.” Variety
