Night of the Undead is a 2020 Korean sci-fi comedy horror film about a married woman who discovers her husband may be an alien serial killer.

Directed by Jeong-won Shin [신정원] (Ghost Sweepers; To Catch a Virgin Ghost) from a screenplay co-written with Hang-jun Jang. Produced by Ye-rim Shin. Executive produced by Sang-yun Kim.

The Contents On production stars Lee Jung-hyun, Kim Sung-oh, Yeong-hie Seo, Dong-kun Yang, Mi-do Lee, Amy Aleha, Paul Battle, Lim Chae-sun, Garrison Michael Farquharson-Keener, Myeong-gap Jang, Hyun-Kwang Jin, Bo-Bi Joo, Won-jung Kim and Min-jae Shin.

Plot:
So-hee (Lee Jung-hyun) enjoys her seemingly perfect life as a newlywed with her seemingly perfect husband Man-gil (Kim Sung-oh). Far being so perfect, she begins to suspect that her husband isn’t as he seems. Wanting some answers, she hires a private detective agency to trail him around.

Doctor Yang (Dong-kun Yang), the private investigator, comes back with a report that her husband is all over town, being affectionate to every woman he comes across. He has already married previously three times, and all the ladies he married previously are either missing or were found dead.

Alien Man-gil realises that his true identity has been uncovered and tries to harm So-hee. With the help of her school friends Se-ra (Yeong-hie Seo), Yang-sun (Mi-do Lee) and Doctor Jang, So-hee decides to kill her husband first, but he won’t fall for any of her traps so easily. Tonight, her duel with unbreakable Man-gil begins…

Reviews:
Night of the Undead has at least two very well-developed sequences, particularly the tension-filled mock birthday scene for Mang-il at Seo-hee’s home, as well as the hilarious encounter with police after the first attempt to dispose of Man-gil. But much of the film’s humor was too on the nose or felt forced.” The Movie Beat

“It all gets increasingly weird and silly, with more and more goofy complications, leading to a stunningly violent finale — although Night of the Undead just wouldn’t be the sort of goofy science fiction/horror murder comedy hybrid that it is if it didn’t have a final surprise waiting for us at the very end.” Rivets on the Poster

“The latest film from South Korean director Shin Jung-won is a baffling mix of ideas and plot points that makes no sense. While Shin’s past works also mixed genres and relied heavily on slapstick comedy, Night of the Undead is on another level altogether.” ★½ South China Morning Post
