Resident Evil is a 2026 live-action reboot of Capcom’s hugely successful survival-horror franchise, directed by Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind Barbarian and Weapons.
Rather than remaking one of the games or continuing the previous film series, Cregger has created an original story set within the Resident Evil universe.
The film is also being positioned as survival horror than the action-heavy Milla Jovovich movies. That means scarcity, isolation, grotesque creatures, claustrophobia and the feeling of being hopelessly outmatched are expected to be major elements.
The movie stars Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson and Devon Stewart.
Plot:
Bryan (Austin Abrams) is a young medical courier who accepts what initially appears to be a routine delivery job. He is sent into an increasingly dangerous area and soon discovers that something has gone catastrophically wrong.

Bryan becomes trapped in the middle of a viral outbreak, with ordinary people transformed into zombies and increasingly grotesque mutated creatures. What begins as a delivery quickly becomes a desperate fight to stay alive as the situation spirals completely out of control.

The trailers and released information suggest that Bryan eventually has to make his way through a monster-infested, largely isolated environment, battling creatures while trying to understand what has happened and find a way out.
