‘She is never alone.’
The Ghosts of Monday is a 2022 Cypriot horror film about a television director who becomes embroiled in a supernatural conspiracy after travelling to Cyprus to make a TV pilot about a haunted hotel.

Directed by Francesco Cinquemani (The Christmas Witch; Beyond the Edge; Andron) from a screenplay co-written with Andy Edwards, Barry Keating and Mark Thompson-Ashworth, based on a story by co-producer Loris Curci (Nightworld). Also produced by Marianna Rosset and Vitaly Rosset.

The Altadium Group production stars Julian Sands (Death Rider in the House of Vampires; The Ghosts of Borley Rectory; A Nasty Piece of WorkWarlock franchise; Gothic), Anthony Skordi, Elva Trill, Mark Huberman, Joanna Fyllidou and Flavia Watson.

“A haunted hotel, an occult conspiracy, a Dario Argento style set-piece murder and a creature in the basement. What more could a horror fan wish for” said Jinga’s CEO, filmmaker Julian Richards (director of Daddy’s Girl; RebornShiverThe Last Horror FilmDarklands).

Release:
In the US, Cleopatra Entertainment released the movie on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD on January 23, 2023.

Reviews:

“The most memorable performance was Julian Sands’ (Warlock’s) portrayal of Bruce, the host of a TV show being filmed at the cursed hotel. He delivers a delirious performance that is in line with the type of performance that he’s known for. When it comes to onscreen carnage, The Ghosts of Monday is a sufficiently gory horror film. Another area where The Ghosts of Monday scores highly is the cinematography, which actually creates some solid atmosphere.” 10K Bullets

“With a capable cast, it is at its strongest when focused on character-driven drama. Cast against type, Sands has fun exploring his role, and Rosset is interesting throughout […] In the end, the film feels like a wasted opportunity, hastily jumping from one idea to another and never taking the time to develop any of them properly.” 2.5 out of 5, Eye for Film

“Much of the film is trying to emulate the work of Mike Flanagan. One only has to check out the poster to see his influence on the piece, however, the insistence to make it unique by stuffing in a confusingly numerous amount of potential threats loses all atmosphere. The end result is a film riddled with ideas, but lacking in focus.” The Hollywood News

“As good as this finale is, it’s not quite strong enough to outweigh all the negatives in The Ghosts of Monday. On the whole, I’d say this is a pretty mixed bag with a bit more bad than good, so it’s your call whether you want to check it out or not. I wouldn’t exactly recommend it, but there’s enough good in here that you definitely won’t be wasting your time if you do give it a shot.” Horror Obsessive

“Admittedly, Cinquemani does not reinvent the wheel with Monday, but he maintains the atmosphere and tension rather skillfully. The cast is also solid, especially the wickedly entertaining Sands. Recommended for regular horror audiences and fans of Sands, the over-achieving The Ghost of Monday releases today…” J.B. Spins

“Director Francesco Cinquemani cobbles together pastiche Argento – complete with some fine wittering from Argento’s Phantom Julian Sands – which means this has a feel not unlike Luigi Cozzi’s Paganini Horror or Il Gatto Nero … ramshackle, overpopulated, sometimes tacky, sometimes inspired.  Lightly likeable – with interesting imperilled women: Elva Trill, Flavia Watson, Kristina Godunova.” The Kim Newman Web Site

“The luxury hotel makes for an excellent setting with the history of the hotel being like The Shining. When it comes to horror, we seem to go through a host of different sub-genres, which keeps us guessing about what will happen next […] The Ghosts of Monday is a tense mystery that will leave you shocked by the end.” 3 stars out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“An atmosphere-heavy horror thriller of the haunted-hotel variety that of course takes a few cues from The Shining (but truth to be told, hasn’t every hotel horror flick since that movie’s release?), and also from Dario Argento’s Suspiria and Inferno, while some murder setpieces would have done honour to any giallo of old stylistically – but that’s not to say that The Ghosts of Monday is nothing but a rehash from any number of shockers of old, as the film has enough substance to stand on its own.” Search My Trash

“The proceedings go from weird to weirder in this great-looking hotel horror outing, which telegraphs its mystery a bit early on but still succeeds in keeping things entertaining and suspenseful throughout, with some unexpected surprises.” 3.5 out of 5, The Scariest Things

“While it’s not a particularly original plot, there are enough original touches that the film doesn’t feel like yet another rehash of old ideas. It also helps that the filmmakers made good use of the hotel’s opulent guest quarters and the claustrophobic steam tunnels and service corridors underneath them. Almost all of The Ghosts of Monday unfolds within its walls and getting it to look either quietly or overtly meanacing at the right times help distract you from how familiar it is.” 3.5 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony

“Where The Ghosts of Monday falls down is its originality, storyline and full script. Whilst the acting is above par, there is no originality here, it’s the usual haunted place with deaths in the past which a film crew investigate and suffer the consequences. The actors do their jobs with the lines they have been given but you wonder if it’s a waste of their talent.” Which Film
