That night around the campfire, Darwin (Richard Brake), their strange and creepy guide, encourages them to tell the most twisted stories they fear and burn a totem that will help feed the evil that lives there. Tales of sinister spirits, demons lurking in the shadows and the truest forms of malevolence emerge.

Little do the friends know that the stories they relate to will have major consequences for them all. Some of the most unbelievable stories might be based on fact and should never be told…

Reviews [click links to read full reviews]:
“[The directors] know the ‘lore’ (sorry) of the portmanteau film; keep it light, tight, and moving. Only ‘The Hidden Woman’ is genuinely creepy but all the segments are well put together, occasionally gory (the first and last stories) and, importantly, don’t outstay their welcome. The link story is a little messy but the end coda, suggesting that storytelling is a never-ending process, works well. Good stuff.” Bloody Flicks

“In terms of quality, Lore is pleasingly consistent. Though created by different minds, the consistent lens of cinematographer Scott Coulter maintains cohesion. The overall viewing experience of Lore is very much that of being sat around a campfire with friends recounting scary ideas. How much mileage the viewer will get from Lore will depend entirely on their own threshold for anthologies…” 3 out of 5, The Hollywood News

” …despite a few tiny missteps, I’m happy to report that the good in Lore outweighs the bad by an extremely wide margin. The film absolutely nails a wide variety of horror subgenres, and unlike most horror anthologies, there’s not a weak story in sight here. It’s just an absolute ton of fun all around…” Horror Obsessive

” …this is a solid, efficient British anthology horror movie.  None of the tales, including the frame story, are exactly ground-breaking, but it has decent suspense, a few proper scares, monsters, gore, in-jokes, good performances and a more than acceptable Crypt Keeper substitute in whispery, scary-grinning Richard Brake.” The Kim Newman Web Site

“Each tale gives us a different idea of horror, but their creepy guide ends up taking down a dangerous path. This is an interesting wrap-around story that gets a well-paid-off outcome, even if things are not the scariest they could have ended up being. ” 3 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“Horror anthologies are often misused by filmmakers eager to snag an easily controlled foothold in the genre world. They are often creatively cold, derivatively lazy, and tediously cheap. Thankfully, Lore is a thoughtfully put-together feast of fucked up fables that makes the most of its superb cast, pleasingly practical gore, and snappy writing.” The People’s Movies

“The slippage between fantasy and reality will turn out to be bi-directional, as the coda suggests a universe where anyone’s everyday situation might readily be storied and invaded with little warning by monster, ghost, folk ritual, slasher, or who knows what. Here, much as one tale leads to another, fear too begets more fear, and there is always something out there that bloodily wants in, or someone who wants to make your life a little scarier. ” Projected Figures

“It’s to genre mainstay Richard Brake’s credit that he manages to keep a straight face throughout all of this […] Still, the direction by James Bushe, Patrick Michael Ryder, and Greig Johnson is competent, and the film maintains a sense of coherency through its short stories and bookends. ‘Mixed bag’ is a cliché in itself, used to describe many an anthology horror film; a mixed bag it may be, but its contents are far from cliché.” 3 out of 5, Starburst
