‘Your mommy won’t save you’
Other Mommy is a 2026 supernatural horror film about a girl who confronts a sinister entity that comes out of her closet. The presence, who she calls “Other Mommy,” becomes increasingly threatening to her and her family.
The movie was directed by Rob Savage, the filmmaker behind Host and The Boogeyman, from a screenplay by Nathan Elston and Josh Malerman. It is based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 horror novel Incidents Around the House.
The Atomic Monster-Blumhouse co-production stars Jessica Chastain, Arabella Olivia Clark and Jay Duplass, with James Wan producing.
Plot:
Eight-year-old Bela lives with her parents in a household affected by marital problems. One day she encounters a mysterious being that emerges from her closet and resembles her mother.
Bela names the entity Other Mommy. Initially, the encounters seem almost like a disturbing version of a child’s imaginary relationship with a parent, but Other Mommy’s behaviour becomes increasingly sinister.
The entity wants to take up residence inside Bela, but it needs Bela to willingly let it in. It therefore attempts to manipulate the young girl rather than simply overpowering her. Meanwhile, its presence begins affecting the rest of the family, creating an increasingly frightening uncertainty over whether Bela’s mother is actually herself—or whether Other Mommy is somehow replacing or impersonating her.
The central question becomes how much Bela can trust her own perception of her mother and the entity, while the supernatural threat increasingly closes in on the entire family.

Release date:
The film is scheduled for 9 October 2026 in US cinemas and is rated R for language and some bloody violence. The runtime is approximately 1 hour 33 minutes.
