Reviews:

“It couldn’t be more different between the three stories and although anthologies are usually made to showcase a variety of writers and directors, having one director does help to bring the stories together […] Ignore the low budget pieces in-between though and I Dream of a Psychopomp is a satisfying story which pulls its parts together well.” BRWC

“We get three big stories; each offers something fresh and most importantly a dramatic story to follow. It will help understand different outcomes of pain that the victims might be going through. This makes this one of the best horror anthologies of the year.” 4 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“Rather than a conventional horror film Villanueva and Ramos have made a film that’s more thoughtful. It’s a look at the emotional issues of life and death, loss, and finding peace. It’s a film to put on when you’re in a more serious mood and want more than just a few jump scares.” 3.5 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony

Background:
Director and co-writer Danny Villanueva Jr has stated: “Creating this film was a way to familiarise myself with death in order to ease some of its force when it knocks. Throughout the editing process, I was the primary caregiver of my dying mother who passed away from stage four lung cancer on Memorial Day of 2020. She was such a loving person and truly my best friend. I found my exposure to the subject of death and understanding why it is what it is through creating this film to be helpful through the grieving process.

Death has become a taboo subject in American culture. We often avoid conversations about it until it arrives, and when it does, we whisper. I think if we talk more about it, we’ll better understand it, and it can be less devastating when it comes. In a time where we are collectively grieving from the many lives lost during the pandemic, I believe this film is especially relevant today.”
