‘It’s the last one you’ll ever take.’

Wrong Turn is a 2003 American backwoods horror film directed by Rob Schmidt from a screenplay written by Alan B. McElroy (Halloween 4).

The movie stars Desmond Harrington, Eliza Dushku, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jeremy Sisto (May), Lindy Booth (Cry_Wolf; American Psycho II) and Kevin Zegers (The Hollow).

It is the first film in the series. Some have criticised the film for being too similar to The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

Reviews:

“The sporadic inclusion of compelling (and appreciatively brutal) sequences does help alleviate the mostly tedious atmosphere, and while the villains are generally quite memorable, Wrong Turn‘s been suffused with a selection of bland protagonists that remain virtually impossible to root for and sympathize with…” Reel Film Reviews

“No one’s out in the woods in high-heeled sandals and even the wimpy girl pulls herself together in a crunch (for all the good it does her), but the arrival of help is inevitably cruelly negated, and the remorseless freaks are, as ever, tougher than cockroaches and way uglier. The result is sheer, unadulterated nastiness with no apologies.” TV Guide

Wrong Turn is short, punchy and to the point. No legacy and no pretence, it’s a rare ‘honest’ production that surfaced the same year as the suspiciously similar Texas Chainsaw remake. If I had to find fault, it’d be the excesses taken with the trio of inbreds; their malformations taken to the extreme that it becomes a bit of a joke, which was pushed to new levels of stupidity in the sequels.” Vegan Voorhees

” …a well-crafted ride with a fair share of okay suspense, some nice tension when they’re hiding in the cabin, a couple of nice “jump” moments […] and some really cool deaths (one involving barb wire, the other – and most cool death in a mainstream horror movie in recent memory – involving an axe). This is a solid, entertaining and completely recommended time.” The Video Graveyard
