Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is a 1989 American slasher horror film and the fifth instalment in the Halloween film series. The movie was directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard (Omen IV: The Awakening; Night Angel; After Darkness).

Donald Pleasence portrayed Doctor Sam Loomis again and Danielle Harris returned to play Jamie Lloyd. The movie also stars Ellie Cornell,
Beau Starr, Jeffrey Landman, Tamara Glynn, Jonathan Chapin, Matthew Walker, Wendy Foxworth/Kaplan, Betty Carvalho, Troy Evans, Frank Como and David Ursin. Don Shanks played The Shape and the mysterious Man in Black.

Plot:
The film begins with a recap of Halloween 4 after Michael Myers (Don Shanks) fell down the mine shaft. The state troopers tossed dynamite down the mine to make sure that Michael was dead.

However, Michael somehow finds his way out and stumbles into a nearby river, where he is found by a local hermit, he collapses into a coma while in the hermit’s care and remains in a comatose state for a full year.

On October 30, 1989, Michael awakens, kills the hermit, and returns to terrorize Haddonfield, where his young niece, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris), continues to live after nearly being killed by Michael the year before.

Jamie has been committed to a children’s psychiatric ward. She also has been rendered mute due to psychological trauma but exhibits signs of a telepathic link with her evil uncle. Dr Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) is aware of Jamie’s psychic link with her uncle and tries to convince Sheriff Ben Meeker (Beau Starr) that Michael Myers is alive.

Meanwhile, Michael kills Rachel (Ellie Cornell) with a pair of scissors and begins to stalk her friend, Tina (Wendy Kaplan), as well as her friends, Samantha (Tamara Glynn), Spitz (Matthew Walker) and her boyfriend Mike (Jonathan Chapin)…

Reviews:
“The previous Halloween films at least showed signs of intelligence among the carnage, this one is a donkey. The introduction of the man in black is interesting but far from enough to save this turd. Dominique Othenin Girard obviously forgot he was doing a “Halloween” flick and gives us what resembles a French farce with sleep-inducing murder sequences.” Arrow in the Head

‘Utterly devoid of suspense and momentum, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers marks a real low point in the series. Were it not for the turd that is Halloween: Resurrection, it would have marked the absolute nadir of the series. The few intriguing aspects it contains were seemingly only designed to be followed up on in further instalments.’ Behind the Couch

“Dominique Othenin-Girard does a fine job in the director’s chair, giving the film a bleak European feel that comes from his previous experiences overseas. He may have a weak script to work with, but he tries to overcome it with some great visuals, a quick pace and nice kill scenes.” Beyond Hollywood

The Revenge of Michael Myers is sub-par filler for completists of the series only. It’s Danielle Harris’ last turn as Jamie Lloyd and features a grim and utterly hopeless final scene that signals Michael’s relentlessness toward snuffing out his family bloodline.” Cinema Crazed

“It’s often dumb, and showcases an insulting array of cat-scares and fake-outs, but 5 at least strives for creepiness, and achieves it with an eerily shot extended woodland chase sequence, and an intense finale at the old Myers house in which Jamie is trapped inside a laundry shoot.” Horror Screams Video Vault

“The story is terrible and completely unimaginative … We are also subjected to some of the most annoying and unlikeable characters ever shown on film. I’m referring to Tina (Wendy Kaplan) and her entire group. I know sometimes you’re sort of rooting for the killer to dispose of the teenagers, but Jesus!” Mr Massacre Street
