White Coffin – Ataúd Blanco: El Juego Diabólico – is a 2016 Argentinian horror thriller directed by Daniel de la Vega (Necrophobia 3D; Death Knows Your Name; Jennifer’s Shadow) from a screenplay by Adrián García Bogliano (Late PhasesHere Comes the Devil) and Ramiro García Bogliano (Penumbra).

The movie stars Julieta Cardinali (Necrophobia 3D), Rafael Ferro (Memory of the Dead), Eleonora Wexler, Fiorela Duranda and Verónica Intile.

While on the road in search of a better life, Virginia and her daughter Rebecca stop at an isolated gas station. Suddenly, Rebecca vanishes and Virginia is plunged into a frantic search for her daughter.

Reviews:

“The few uses of gore in the film come fast and furious in a shocking assault of crimson ferocity. It also serves to motivate the film’s lead and shift the decisions she must face. The acting is terrific throughout with Julieta Cardinali as a stand out while Refael Ferro and Eleonora Wexler give exemplary supporting performances. White Coffin is a small gem that deserves to be discovered.” Gruesome magazine

With a heavy helping of the road movie genre, as well as revenge films, White Coffin is an odd mixture of Mad Max and The Crow. The blend works beautifully, especially with the added kidnapping, occult, and supernatural elements. It is a strange but compelling film that forces the viewer to place themselves in Virginia’s position.” Kat Hughes, The Hollywood News

“Credit writers Adrián García Bogliano and Ramiro García Bogliano with creating a story full of twists and turns that never needs to bog itself down in dialogue and never lets the plot become secondary to the action. Add to that the direction and camerawork that add a modern edge, the retro plotting, and an excellent performance by Cardinali to anchor it.” Jim Morazzini, The Underground Beneath

White Coffin shows the love and pain that parents feel for their children in the rawest sense as well as the consequences of what can happen when one makes a deal with the Devil.  If you are like me and enjoy a slow burn film that relies on suspense, mystery, and a punch-to-the-gut horror finale then make sure you check out White Coffin. Shannon McGrew, Nightmarish Conjurings
