THE 27 CLUB (2019) Reviews and overview

The 27 Club is a 2019 American supernatural horror feature film directed and edited by Patrick Fogarty (Legion of the Black) from a screenplay co-written with Joe Flanders and Micahel Lynn.

The Cleopatra Entertainment production stars Maddisyn Carter, Derrick Denicola and Todd Rundgren.

A singer-songwriter chasing fame and a journalism student researching his thesis are drawn into a sinister underworld as each attempt to discover the truth behind the curse of “The 27 Club” – a cultural meme involving the deaths of famous musicians who died aged twenty-seven, such as Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse…

The 27 Club is too competent in its structure and pace to be so bad; it’s good recommendation. Yet due to the bland, forgettable acting, the characters who don’t have any arc to speak of, and the rote, drab visual presentation, the movie is a dull viewing experience.” Film Threat

“The circumstances of the so-called 27 Club are eerie enough to inspire a good horror movie, but this isn’t it. Admittedly, Fogarty’s film is a more professional piece of work than Phoebe Dollar’s unwatchable Sunset Society, but it cannot touch Rob Stefaniuk’s Suck, the gold standard of rock & roll horror comedies. Not recommended…” J.B. Spins

“Suicide and overdose are horrible, tragic occurrences – and horrible though they might be, they’re not whimsical fodder for horror stories. And they’re certainly not the fault of a snaggle-toothed goblin. If we’re to continue making leaps and bounds in mental health discourse, we need to leave perceptions like The 27 Club’s in the past.” NME

“This could have been a lot of fun with a good script. However, The 27 Club trips over itself repeatedly contradicting major plot points. The most important of which is whether you need to actually possess the book, or just know the ritual. That and just sloppy writing that had me confused more than once about just how somebody was connected to what was going on.” Voices from the Balcony

The 27 Club is released by Cleopatra Entertainment as a Blu-ray + DVD + CD combo on June 11, 2019.
