‘To win the ultimate war, make the ultimate sacrifice’
The Driver is a 2019 Thai action horror feature film about a man that fights to keep his family alive in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.
Directed by Wych Kaosayananda from a screenplay written by Steve Poirier, based on Kaosayananda’s storyline, the movie stars Mark Dacascos, Julie Condra, Noelani Dacascos and Jeremy Stutes.
Dead Earth is a tie-in movie that follows the same timeline and focuses on some of the same characters.
Plot:
After a plague of the undead decimates human life on earth, a former hit-man (Mark Dacascos, John Wick 3), his wife (Julie Condra, Eerie, Indiana), and daughter, Bree (Noelani Dacascos), live quietly in a survivalist compound.
However, when the base is attacked, a massive explosion summons a swarm of the undead. They escape and must seek out the Haven, a rumoured sanctuary up north, while the father teaches his daughter to shoot, drive, and survive before time runs out…
Reviews:
The production values are acceptable, but the whole film really isn’t. The Driver has a lot of parts that just don’t go well together. The whole film gives a strange feeling as if it isn’t really a complete film, but an unfinished TV episode. Or something done without any serious preparation.” BZ Film
“The Driver isn’t a bad film by any means. I can appreciate what it tries to do differently, how it tries to subvert the tropes of a subgenre that has been done and overdone, especially in the last couple of decades. Beyond that, it’s not necessarily a game-changer, but that doesn’t immediately disqualify it from being passable.” Crypt Teaze
“Viewers are certainly treated to a whole lot of driving, to an extent where I even began to wonder if The Driver might actually be one long car commercial. With music that sounds like a Final Fantasy save point and a severe lack of the undead, The Driver can at times come off as lifeless as the creatures occasionally chewing up its scenery.” Killer Horror Critic
