AWOKEN (2019) Reviews and overview

‘Never sleep again’

Awoken is a 2019 Australian supernatural horror film about a boy whose terminal sleep illness masks a dark secret.

Directed by Daniel J. Phillips from a screenplay co-written with Alan Grace, the movie stars Erik Thomson, Benson Jack Anthony, Sara West and Felicia Tassone.

Plot:

A young medical student attempts to cure her brother of a terminal sleep illness called Fatal Familial Insomnia, where you are unable to sleep until you die. On her quest to help him, a more sinister reason for his condition is revealed. VHS found footage, possession, suicide and an exorcism ensue…

Reviews:

Awoken seems to have an original and fresh idea in horror, but it falls prey to all of the genre’s clichés, particularly those of possession movies. The plot of the movie is linear and predictable, the work of the cast is not great, and the special effects mediocre.” 10th Circle
