‘Someone’s always watching’

The Night Clerk is a 2020 American murder mystery feature film about a voyeuristic young man with Asperger’s becoming the subject of a murder investigation.

Written and directed by Michael Cristofer (Body Shots; Original Sin), the Highland Film Group-WulfPak Productions movie stars Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One; Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse), Ana de Armas (Knives Out), Helen Hunt (I See You) and John Leguizamo (Land of the Dead).

Reviews [click links to read more]:

“Armas offers some appealing intimacy, and Leguizamo tries to be a cynical force for justice, but Cristofer doesn’t wind the material up. He lounges with it instead, which doesn’t make for a riveting sit. The Night Clerk is more banal than bonkers, skipping a chance to push the central conflict to nail-biting extremes.” Blu-ray.com

“Although everything is connected to the murder, even Andrea, there is so much going on in this film that the balance is off, making it feel unfocused. I needed the weight to be more evenly distributed between each of its moving parts to fully invest in all of them.” Film Pulse

” …The Night Clerk is a fun, low-key who-done-it with some interesting plotting that will likely be remembered for its great performances.” Quiet Earth

“Inert to such a degree that one wonders if the film has been slowed down, The Night Clerk doesn’t really go anywhere, truly disappointing for how much it wastes the talents of its young stars on a movie that doesn’t deserve them.” RogerEbert.com

“The plot feels almost too uncomplicated to be a TV drama let alone a feature film. Tensions over the outcome never rise above a flutter, and regardless of how strong the performances—de Armas, Hunt and Sheridan, in particular—this is a thriller that rarely manages to generate any real tension.” UK Film Review
