‘Home isn’t always safe.’

Apartment 413 is a 2019 American psychological thriller film about an unemployed homebound young man whose sanity begins to break down.

Directed by Matt Patterson from a screenplay written by Ron Maede. Produced by Matt Patterson and Jon Michael Simpson.

The Matter Media Studios-One Chameleon Entertainment-Two Birds co-production stars Nicholas Saenz (American Crime), Brea Grant (Beyond the Gates), Dave Buckner and Jon Michael Simpson.

Plot:

Marco (Nicholas Saenz) spends his days applying for jobs online and waiting for Dana (Brea Grant), his pregnant girlfriend, to get home. Strange post-it notes mysteriously appear around the apartment with cryptic warnings. A mechanic (Dave Buckman) texts and calls him with menacing messages from an old non-functioning cell phone.

The walls seem to close in and tensions build between Marco and Dana’s relationship until all sense of safety dwindles as the lines between imagined and reality blur for both Marco and the audience. When Marco discovers the root of it all, his real problems begin…

Reviews:

” …kudos to actor Nicholas Saenz. He carries the film on his shoulders and it’s his sensitive and believable portrayal of a man in the midst of psychosis that really makes Apartment 413 work […] this film is bleak. Very bleak. With a downbeat ending that is one of the most powerful I’ve seen in some time…” Nerdly

Apartment 413 shines in its authentic representation of the insidious temptation to throw it all away and give in to feelings of helplessness. Marco not only struggles with anxiety and depression but delusion and self-sabotage. Saenz’s fantastic performance keeps us grounded in Marco’s perception. We’re left questioning reality alongside him, wondering if he really is the victim of a nefarious force or if he’s suffering a psychotic break.” Rue Morgue
