Reviews:

“Jones, McNamee, and the supporting players all give solid performances, but they, along with Lange, are hampered by an uninspired, trope-ridden screenplay by Simon Boyes and Adam Mason. The technical aspects are all fine, though. I recommend The Visitor for ancestral-curse and fish-out-of-water horror film completists.” Horror Fuel

“The type of horror feature one forgets almost immediately after it ends, The Visitor leaves something to be desired. While relative newbie Justin P. Lange does an admirable job in the director’s chair, nothing can fully repair a limp script from Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Hangman, Songbird). Genre cliches galore force their way in, well before an underwhelming ending leaves a staleness in the air behind it.” 2/5, Josh at the Movies

“It’s smart and savvy and embraces and twists lots of familiar tropes in rewarding ways, but if you have seen three-in-particular very well-known horror films the finale will seem far too familiar. An enticing, slow-burning and spooky mystery, with some deliciously nasty twists, The Visitor does suffer from being too derivative of the classics.” 3/5, Live for Film

“Even at 86 minutes, The Visitor begins to overstay its welcome, too early for a project that should be far easier to digest. Jones is an appealing lead but can only shoulder the movie’s weight for so long. I kept waiting for a new character to arrive to balance the brunt better. Perhaps that would have helped with the ending, which goes over like a thin afterthought that doesn’t make much sense.” The MN Move Man

“It kind of feels like a made-for-TV horror movie, viewers might find scrolling through the channels in a hotel room and leave on just because. A horror film can commit much worse sins than this, so it’s to The Visitor‘s testament that it’s not entirely boring. It is atmospheric and eerie, building to a conclusion that leaves one wanting more.” 2/5, Screen Rant
