Plot synopsis:
Despite what she tells her loyal followers on Instagram, social media influencer Madison is having a lonely and disappointingly uneventful visit in Thailand.

Her experience does a miraculous 180 when she meets CW, another traveller who seems to thrive on her own. After showing Madison all the amazing sights, CW saves the best surprise for last — a deserted island completely off the grid…

Reviews:
“I love a well-written baddie and Influencer definitely delivers. CW is creepy and cunning, with a long game that is as terrifying as she is evil. As a frequent traveller myself, Influencer was the epitome of horror: unwanted attention, over-friendly travellers, imposing people, my room being broken into. That’s all nothing compared to what CW dreams up for her victims.” Addicted to Media

“It feels like a YA novel gone rogue. The violence is never really violent. Every time we almost get a roar, it stifles itself into a whimper. The movie is frustrating because it feels like there is a better movie scratching at the surface begging to be freed.” 2.5 stars out of 5, Dread Central

” …there are plots galore: crosses and double-crosses; heists and murders most foul; and at the end of all that, one of those little movie smiles where an antagonist recognizes the brilliance of a mortal enemy and steels themselves for another round of chicanery. Influencers is strong stuff and a calling card.” 3 out of 4 stars, Film Freak Central

Influencer is a clever horror-tinged-thriller that is sort of like the original Dutch The Vanishing for the social media generation. You can even see the influence (so to speak) of a Hitchcock classic, but Harder and co-screenwriter Tesh Guttikonda give that twist a further twist […] Recommended as a rather crafty serial killer thriller…” J.B. Influencer is the type of movie that constantly reinvents itself as it progresses. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, there would be another titanic shift in the structure. The thriller slowly evolves into a tense game of cat-and-mouse. Mainly, this move makes Cassandra Naud an MVP of sociopathic manipulation. One can easily forgive a couple minor flaws…” 3.5 stars out of 5, Josh at the Movies

“The direction the film takes makes Influencer memorable. It avoids falling into cliches. As events unfold, I was thankful it did not downgrade to a survivor story, a la Tom Hanks. Influencer captures the obsession and danger of social media. The movie does not drag, with a lean pace of 90 minutes, and you cannot stop watching till the very end.” Nightmarish Conjurings

“Harder’s screenplay, co-written with Tesh Guttikonda, makes every line seem casual yet count in the end […] Here social media are exposed as virgin territories where fakery is foregrounded, where identity is not so much documented as invented and exploited, where emptiness, alienation and oblivion subsist in splendid isolation, and where not all followers have good intentions.” Projected Figures
