‘Something evil is here’
First Contact is a 2023 American sci-fi horror film about two siblings who investigate their late scientist father’s research.
Written and directed by Bruce Wemple (Dawn of the Beast; The Retreat; Monstrous; Lake Artifact; Altered Hours). Executive produced by Cole Payne.
The 377 Films-Traverse Terror co-production stars Anna Shields, James Liddell, Chris Cimperman, Caitlin Duffy, Paul Kandarian, Michael L. Parker, Grant Schumacher, Zachary Seekins and LeJon Woods.
Plot:
Two estranged adult siblings, Casey and Dan, travel to their late scientist father’s farmhouse to make sense of his incomplete work. They soon learn that their father’s work was far more dangerous than they could ever imagine: an evil entity, buried in time and space for millions of years, has been released and has begun wreaking havoc on the locals.
One by one, dead bodies begin to pile up. Now, Dan and Casey must figure out the secrets of this extra-dimensional monster before it’s too late…
Reviews:
“The story’s central estranged brother and sister duo aren’t exactly in much of a hurry to find their father for starters. Also, whenever very strange, and disturbing things happen, they act like nothing out of the ordinary has just occurred instead continuing their banter lifelessly as they had just returned home with their weekly shopping – it’s all a bit messy.” 2 out of 10, My Bloody Reviews
“Like most of Wemple’s films, the effects in First Contact are practical whenever possible. Kevin’s transformation is done in an effective if fairly simple manner. […] attempts at creating its own lore really don’t pan out here. Fortunately, there’s enough going on and followed through with to allow it to work as a low-budget sci-fi/horror film.” Voices from the Balcony
