Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a 2023 American action-fantasy film that continues the underwater adventures of the DC Comics character.
Directed by James Wan (Malignant; Aquaman; The Conjuring; Dead Silence; Saw) from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It; Aquaman; The Conjuring 2; Red Riding Hood; Orphan), based on the character created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger.
The movie stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.

Plot:
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction…

Joining Wan behind-the-camera is his sterling team of “Aquaman” artisans: director of photography Don Burgess (“The Conjuring 2”), production designer Bill Brzeski (“Jumanji: The Next Level”), editor Kirk Morri (“Furious 7”), composer Rupert Gregson-Williams (“Wonder Woman”) and music supervisor is Michelle Silverman (“Malignant”). Visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (“The Clash of the Titans” films, “The Dark Knight”) and costume designer Richard Sale (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Ready Player One”) also join.”
Previously, Jason Momoa has revealed a new look for Aquaman on Instagram. The first image shows Momoa in a green and orange costume that reflects the original comic book look.
The second image shows Momoa’s film Aquaman in a darker costume. “Second round. New suit. More action. #aquaman Aloha j” he wrote.
James Wan commented: “Aquaman 2 is very heavily inspired by Planet of the Vampires. You can take the boy out of horror, but you can never take the horror out of the boy.”
Wan continued: “People were taken aback that I didn’t throw all that stuff away and make a dark, heavy film. But I didn’t feel that would have been right for it. So with the second film, I feel it will be easier for people to accept where we go because I’ve already laid the foundation.”
