Tigon British Film Productions or simply just Tigon was a film production and distribution company founded by Tony Tenser in 1966.

It is best remembered for its horror films, particularly Witchfinder General (directed by Michael Reeves, 1968) and The Blood on Satan’s Claw (directed by Piers Haggard, 1971). Other Tigon films include The Creeping FleshThe Sorcerers, Virgin Witch and Doomwatch (1972), based on the TV series of the same name.

Tigon was based in Wardour Street, London, and released a wide range of films from sleaze through to an acclaimed 1971 adaptation of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, starring Helen Mirren. The largest part of their output, however, was made up by low-budget horror films in direct competition for audiences with Hammer Film Productions and Amicus Productions.
sorcerers_poster_02In January 2005, British-based FAB Press published Beasts in the Cellar: The Exploitation Film Career of Tony Tenser, a book by John Hamilton that profiles Tigon’s output in detail.

In February 2005, a DVD set of Tigon films was released in the UK by Anchor Bay in a distinctive coffin-shaped box. The collection has sold out and is now only available via private sellers. A small number of Tigon films have been released remastered on Blu-ray Disc.
