Cut Shoot Kill is a 2017 horror thriller film written and directed by Michael Walker (The Maid’s Room). The Pango Films production stars Alexandra Socha, Alex Hurt and Phil Burke.
Serena Brooks, an ambitious young actress, signs on as the star of a horror film with a crew of backwoods filmmakers that have worked together for years. When the cast starts disappearing, Serena has to become her character if she wants to survive…
Reviews:
“Considering that the film also provides some above-average performances, superb special effects, and a few genuinely surprising twists and turns, there’s no doubt that Cut Shoot Kill is one of the better meta slashers to come along in recent memory. It’s timely, strangely relatable, and passes all of the requirements of a good slasher film.” Cinema Slasher
It is by no means the most inventive genre piece – with a number of difficulties and snags along the way – but it provides audiences with what they have come to expect (and maybe even a little bit more of a bite), with blood, guts and tension to spare. It is a mostly well-made indie horror, with a solid cast and direction to boot…” Film Enquiry:
“The special effects are adequate but unremarkable and the film suffers from being set mostly at night with the lighting not always up to the job, which means more depends on the actors. As such, it falls short of its potential, and the ending doesn’t have the impact it should.” Eye for Film
“Cut Shoot Kill is a mediocre slasher with a pretty good ending. That mediocrity stems from a dull script with unimaginative kills, uneven acting, and plot points you can see from a theater away. Conceptually it’s novel, but the execution misses the mark far too often.” Modern Horrors
“A thriller would perhaps still be the best way to describe this movie, though its story definitely makes this a full-out horror and slasher flick. A bit of a mixed bag that works out well in some regards, but feels lacking in others. It is good to watch if you are in the mood for something unique and original, but disappointing to watch if you want a good old fashioned slasher.” Boba_Fett1138
“Most of the gore effects are thankfully practical, but the occasional CG blood accents that are a bit rough to say the least. It seems to go against the very ethos Alabama and Co. are working so hard to achieve.” Film Pulse
“It starts like any other film and the characters all feel very familiar and one note, but as the story begins to unfold, the complexities and secrets of everyone involved make for a much deeper experience […] Cut Shoot Kill is a welcome surprise in a sea of been there, done that slasher films.” Haddonfield Horror
“Cut Shoot Kill isn’t a comedy, yet there is a hint of humor in having a hillbilly filmmaking “family” being the cabal behind the carnage. The movie recognizes it is dealing with an improbable concept and acknowledges it just enough to wink without risking a break into full-on splattery silliness.” Culture Crypt
“Cut Shoot Kill works its movie-within-a-movie concept with restraint, instead of contempt, for the audience. The narrative purpose permeates throughout the proceedings, and once the curtain is up, Michael Walker avoids the traps lesser films continually fall into by striving yet again to “fool” the audience.” The Hollywood Outsider
“Walker offers some sly commentary on the actor’s myopically neurotic mindset, but in general, CSK is pretty standard stuff. As such, it is a rather dramatic departure from his issue-oriented thriller, The Maid’s Room. Although less ambitious, CSK is far more honest about what it is and what it means.” J.B. Spins
