KILLER UNICORN (2018) Reviews and overview

Killer Unicorn is a 2018 American slasher horror film directed by Drew Bolton from a screenplay by José D. Álvarez. The movie stars Alejandro La Rosa, Dennis Budesheim, Markus Kelle and Monica Garcia Bradley.

Álvarez described the film to Billboard magazine as: “like John Waters topping John Carpenter, so equal parts scary, campy and queer.” This are two filmmaking icons that are hard to best. The writer also mentions that there are hidden references in the film: “so you will get some I Know What You Did Last SummerScream and Halloween.”

Plot:

Danny is your average Brooklyn party boy. This year, he and his friends couldn’t be more excited about one of the biggest annual camp party events. While the night starts out fun, it quickly takes a turn when Danny is attacked by a stranger.

He survives, but now a year later, Danny decides to give his social life a second chance. Wrong choice – as Danny and everyone else who helped him that night, are in danger. A man wearing a unicorn mask is killing off Brooklyn, one queen at a time, and he won’t stop until he has his revenge…

Reviews:

“While I first took it as an unsuccessful attempt to create a synthesis of Liquid Sky and John Waters, I came to realize that it’s simply its own silly, mostly harmless, sometimes shockingly violent little horror/slasher comedy that you may find mildly entertaining.” HK and Cult Film News
