‘The cult didn’t survive… but the evil did’
The Jonestown Haunting is a 2020 British supernatural horror feature film about a survivor of the 1978 massacre who finds the evil still lingers on.

Written and directed by prolific Andrew Jones (The Curse of Halloween Jack; Jurassic PredatorRobert the Doll and sequels; Werewolves of the Third ReichCabin 28; et al) based on a story co-written with Sharron Jones, the Northbank Entertainment production stars Tiffany Ceri (The Curse of Halloween Jack; The Utah Cabin Murders; The Exorcism of Anna Ecklund; et al), Derek Nelson, Andromeda Godfrey and Harriet Rees.

Plot:
In 1978, a remote settlement occupied by The People’s Temple, an infamous cult led by Reverend Jim Jones, became the site of several murders and one of the biggest mass suicides in history. All members of the cult were supposed to die that day, but one survived.

Ten years later, Sarah Logan is still plagued by terrifying nightmares. She decides to return to the abandoned settlement hoping to finally put the ghosts of the past to rest. But Sarah soon discovers the cult’s former home has become a breeding ground for the supernatural. Now she faces a new fight for survival, battling malevolent entities in an attempt to once again escape the potent darkness of Jonestown…

Reviews:
“Tasteless or not: is there still something to shudder? Nah, not really. Jones’s trick is to grab the attention with real dramas and add a few cheesy horror passages. The shock value is high […] What remains is an amateurishly made low budget film full of hysterical acting, weak special effects and a dubious approach.” 0.5/5 Cinemagazine [translated from Dutch]

” …where there was no real attempt to persuade the viewer that they’d crossed the pond (including casting actors who were hopeless at adopting US accents and filming in rural Welsh village halls) with this […] the director has worked hard to establish a mood, a credible cast and a script of greater depth.” Dark Eyes of London
